In order to plan for staging, we require that exhibiters in Floral Art and American Rose Society arrangement classes pre-register for an exhibitor number for all entries. Floral Art must apply by June 1, 2009 and ARS arrangements by June 15, 2009. Application for the American Rose Society (ARS) National Challenge and Trophy classes and the Pacific Northwest District (PNWD) Challenge classes is not required but it would be appreciated if exhibiters could indicate their intention to enter these classes.
Exhibiting roses at the World Rose Show is open to everyone! You do not have to be a member of a rose or garden society and you do not have to be registered for the World Rose Convention.
There is no fee to exhibit roses, except if you wish to participate in the American Rose Society (ARS) National Challenge and Trophy classes and the Pacific Northwest District (PNWD) Challenge classes, in which case the registration fee is $49 CDN. This registration fee also includes admission to the Festival from June 19 to June 21, 2009. Please note that there is no refund for fees paid.
An exhibitor number is required for all classes.
If you wish to attend the Festival, admission is required if you are not registered for the Convention or for one of the ARS classes. Visit the World Rose Festival's online ticket purchasing to buy your tickets online and in advance for a $4 CDN savings. If you are a judge, click here for more information.
Note: If two spouses/partners from the same household exhibit, they are considered one exhibitor and if entering ARS classes are only required to pay the $49 registration fee once, unless one of them is registered for the Convention. Should both people wish to access the Hall during show hours at the same time, one person is required to pay admission.
All rose exhibitors, including Floral Art and Photography exhibitors, must check in at the designated registration table at the entrance of West Hall C, Vancouver Convention Centre, upon arrival to collect your exhibitor number.
Hours are: Thursday, June 18, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. & Friday, June 19, 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. You may also check in at the Westin Bayshore Hotel (1601 Bayshore Drive) on Thursday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Staging of Rose Show blooms (Roses, Floral Art, Photography) takes place on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 4:00 am to 9:30 am. No entries will be allowed after the 9:30 am deadline.
On Friday morning, exhibitors will be able to drive their cars up to the receiving doors of the exhibition hall and drop off their roses at the staging area. Cars must then exit the area and go to the permanent parking area underground.
There will be a “placement committee” that places all entries onto the show tables.
ARS and PNWD National Challenge class exhibitors place their own entries under direction of the show committee; Floral Art exhibitors may place their entries on Thursday, June 18, 6pm to 9pm; and ARS Arrangement exhibitors may place their backgrounds and frame on Thursday, June 18, 4pm to 6pm. Photographs may be dropped off at either Vancouver Convention Centre or the Westin Bayshore.
Note: Refrigeration will be available at the Vancouver Convention Centre for out-of-town entrants on a first-come, first-served basis on Thursday, June 18. Entry to the refrigeration will be available from 10:00am to 10:00pm.
Retrieving your Roses: Sunday, June 21, 5pm (no earlier)
All roses, floral art props, photographs and any awards must be retrieved promptly at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21. Nothing may be removed from the show prior to 5:00 p.m., June 21. Unclaimed items will be discarded at 6 p.m. Any unclaimed items will become the property of the Vancouver Rose Society.

Rose Show Awards Presentation, Sunday, July 21, 4pm
Note: If you are a registered Rose Show exhibitor and have not paid the $49 registration fee, when collecting your exhibit number, you will be provided with an Awards Presentation ticket for complimentary admission to enter the Hall as of 3:45pm on Sunday, July 21. Rose Show Exhibitors who have paid the $49 registration fee will have a three day pass to use for admission.
Note: Due to the cost and other logistical difficulties of transportation, the ARS National Trophies will not be awarded in Vancouver. Instead, all winners will receive a Keepsake Award. As well, Keepsake Awards will be awarded in place of VRS and CRS Trophies.
All Roses entered in the Rose Show must be grown outdoors by the exhibitor except in certain classes where an exception has been made. Refer to the Rose Show Schedule for more information.
In the Floral Art Section, Roses and all other greenery can be purchased. Please refer to the VRS Schedule for more information.
The VRS rules for exhibiting ALLOW all stems to be cut as stem-on-stem. For “OGR” and “Shrub” classifications, the secondary stem can be ABOVE the lip of the vase. For “all other classes” (hybrid teas, floribundas, minis, etc.), the secondary stem must be BELOW the lip of the vase. We encourage all exhibitors to cut LONG STEMS using the stem-on-stem method as this will help all show blooms last for the duration of our 3-day show. We will, of course, be providing a floral preservative in all water used for the vases.
The VRS rose show is NOT an “alphabetical” show – all classes are broken out by “COLOUR” as noted in the ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses.
All judging takes place on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm by qualified ARS and CRS judges as well as World Federation certified judges. Judges, click here for more information.
